This family walk brings you to discover the Molière alpine pastures, an emblematic place of the Vercors which offers magnificent panoramas over the entire Alps.

A great classic of the Vercors but so unavoidable!
Between undergrowth and meadows, the Molière mountain pasture welcomes numerous heifers during the summer period. In this bucolic atmosphere, admire stunning views of the nearby Alpine massifs and the Mont-Blanc on a clear day.

3 points of interest

  • Viewpoint of the Molière

The viewpoint of the Molière offers one of the most beautiful panoramas of the Vercors. A large part of the Alps is offered to you as far as Mont Blanc, passing by the Chartreuse, Belledonne or Oisans.
  • Bear Footprints

Many places in the Vercors testify to the old presence of the Bear. It is here that it has remained the longest in the French Alps. The last was reportedly killed at the Col de l'Arc in 1901, and the last sighting took place in St Martin-en-Vercors in 1937. A reintroduction project was carried out in 1990, when the Vercors was identified as one of the most suitable sites in France.Catch a trace (carved) hides in the gap of the Pas de l'Ours!
  • Alpage of the Molière

The Molière alpine pasture (probably millstone because a former grinding quarry exists nearby), represents a traditional pasture place for the 280 heifers belonging to 25 different owners. The different cattle breeds raised on the Vercors are there: the montbéliarde, in the white and red dress; Abondance, white with dark brown eyes; The blonde of Aquitaine in the plain dress, very similar to the local star, the Villarde. The Molière alpine pasture is classified as a sensitive natural area by the departmental council of Isère, its management is entrusted to the Regional Natural Park of Vercors.

Recommandations

You cross a Sensitive Natural Area with a specific regulation to respect (information panel at the entrance of the site).

You're going to go through the summer pastures, maybe you'll meet protective dogs and herd guards.

Always be sure to bypass the animals while remaining calm while the dog identifies you. Do not caress or threaten them.

If you have a dog, keep it on a leash!

Use the passageways to cross the fences, close the gates and barriers, stay on the marked paths. Thinking about closing the gates of the parks is also to think of the shepherds and the flocks.
