Let yourself be swept away by this landscape shaped by time and the majestic summit of the Grand Veymont.

A village defined by resistance !

2 points of interest

  • moulin de la mure vassieux
moulin de la mure vassieux - P.Mayade

The country of wind and windmills

At the crossroads of Bourget, turn to see on the horizon the two ruined towers of the hamlet of La Mure. These are two old windmills. Vassieux had 8 in all. The last one stopped grinding in 1878. It must be said that this vast plateau open to the north and south is particularly windy (you may have realized if you forgot your little wool!). The mills of Vassieux are the only ones known in the Alps.
  • Plateau de Vassieux
Plateau de Vassieux - S.M Booth

    Plateau of Vassieux-en-Vercors

The plateau of Vassieux-en-Vercors is an open landscape characteristic of the karstic plateaus, the surface water is almost non-existent and the soils are not thick. However, dolines, which are depressions where the clay accumulates, thus allowing the cultivation of cereals, alongside these dolines, the stones are heaped up. There used to be many windmills to grind grain.
