This is a fairly long stage with a mix of forest tracks and small paths but it features a wide array of landscapes and viewpoints over the north of the Vercors. The route runs through all the iconic sites of the Vercors (Gève, Molière, Belvédère and Prairie de Machiret)), and goes down the finest descents in this sector!
5 points of interest
Le plateau de Gève, haut lieu du ski nordique - s_fayollat Gève
The Gève plateau is very popular for Nordic skiing; it forms part of the 200 km network of cross-country ski trails in the Autrans-Méaudre area. In winter, the Gève plateau has some of the highest snowfall in the Vercors.Refuge de Gève - Inspiration Vercors Gève Refuge – Camp 3
Now known as the Refuge de Gève, this forest cabin once served as the winter quarters for the Camp 3 Resistance fighters. It was set up by the Franc-Tireur Resistance movement in the spring of 1943. It housed around 30 people who were refusing to undertake the Service du Travail Obligatoire – the forced enlistment of French citizens. Their days were devoted to collecting firewood and keeping watch. They later took part in the fighting in the Vercors and the Liberation of Lyon in 1944. Since Camp 3 was too easy for the enemy to reach in the summer, it moved to the Cabane des Carteaux.Belvédère de la Molière - S.M Booth Viewpoint of the Molière
The viewpoint of the Molière offers one of the most beautiful panoramas of the Vercors. A large part of the Alps is offered to you as far as Mont Blanc, passing by the Chartreuse, Belledonne or Oisans.Maquette reconstituant le site de Machiret - R. Picavet Machiret
At the foot of the Black Combe, on the site of the fountain of Machiret, several thousands of objects in flint were discovered following the erosion of the path of the Col de l'Arc.The site was frequented during the Mesolithic period (9,500-6,500 BC). Some of the objects are shaped from the flint present on the slopes of the Cornafion. However, some of these pieces are made of flint from the south of the Vercors. Others are made of hyaline quartz and come from the crystalline Alps. This shows the great mobility of the last hunters of Prehistory, who found here a propitious place to stay during their hunting expeditions at altitude.Pont de l'Amour - PNRV Pont de l'Amour
The Pont de l'Amour (Bridge of Love) takes its name from the romantic stories of young high school students. It is a bridge of wood that allows to cross the Fauge, a torrent taking its source upstream of the Vallon of the Fauge.
Description
- From the village of Autrans, the Grand Tour makes its way towards the plateau of Gève along a scenic track that is a great ride surrounded by forests and clearings. In winter these are the Nordic ski slopes!
- From the meadow of Gève to Molière, this is a rolling route through forest, with some big uphill sections to negotiate (under the Grande Brèche and under the Sure). If you have time, don’t forget to stop off at the Sure with its incredible view over the Grenoble valley!
- After crossing the meadow of Plénouze, you’ll at last reach the plateau of Molière with its iconic landscapes. After Molière, the route runs through a mix of forest and open spaces near inhabited areas as you follow a highly scenic trail with very smooth, fun sections.
- A descent of almost 700 m takes you to Col de la Croix Perrin.
- And the route continues in the forest passing through Croix Servagnet with a picturesque finale taking you down to the hamlet of la Côte!
- There follows a long climb between the hamlets of Blancs and the belvedere of Allières.
- To finish the tour off, you take a big descent via the prairie de Machiret towards the cochettes (Villard de Lans). You can avoid the long climb of Blancs (400 m) and shorten the stage by cutting through the Bois Noir as far as Ville Vieille by following the ViaVercors.

Recommandations
You are crossing a Conservation Nature Area (ENS) with specific regulations to be respected (information panel at the entrance to the site).
You are in summer pastures, and may meet herd protection and guard dogs (patous). Always ensure that you go a long way round the animals, calmly so that the dog can identify you, do not pat or threaten them.
If you have a dog, make sure you keep it on a lead!
Use the installed passages to cross fences, close gates and barriers.
Stay on the marked trails and respect private property.
Remembering to close the gates properly also means thinking about the shepherds and their flocks.
