National nature reserve of the Vercors Hauts plateaux
These large plateaux, at an average altitude of 1600m, are well known to lovers of wide open spaces where man has left his discreet mark over the centuries. The fauna and flora of the area also appreciate these landscapes, where the 2 emblems of the Park can be seen: the wild tulip and the black grouse. Rock birds likes particularly the great cliffs that line these plateaux, and mountain orchids brighten up the sparse forest of hooked pines. Classified as a National Nature Reserve since 1985, this natural heartland enjoys a high level of protection. Human activities are regulated here, and certain rules apply to everyone: dogs are banned, even on a lead, and so are fires and motor vehicles, except for professionals (shepherds and breeders, forest managers and rangers). Bivouacs are possible, but tents must be taken down every day.
Overflights are prohibited below 300m.
