A stage dedicated to contemplation and a chance to catch your breath. Take the opportunity to marvel at the listed site of Combe Laval from the belvedere of the same name. Also worth seeing are the cave and waterfall of Frochet just before you reach the village of Saint-Jean.
A pleasant forest atmosphere where you can explore and enjoy all the riches of the Royans.

    Cave of Frochet

Under the porch a source appears. The waters of this emergence seem to come from the mountain of the Echarasson. The water emerges here because it is at this level that the zone of contact between the permeable Uronian limestone and the impermeable marls is located. The water from this cave is captured and then transported by pipes to supply the inhabitants of Saint-Jean-en-Royans. The cave of Frochet was the object of a campaign of archaeological excavations. The pottery dating from the final Bronze and the flint tools suggest that this shelter was occupied seasonally or even permanently.

Description

The route now ventures properly into the Royans and arrives at Saint-Jean-en-Royans. This is a more "relaxing" section that will lead you to the edge of the cirque de Combe Laval, where you can enjoy a mesmerising view of the listed site. The Combe Laval route is the most popular tourist itinerary in the Vercors on account of the beauty of its craggy landscapes. This section is almost entirely downhill, and largely in forest. It passes through Les Quatre Routes, Echarasson pass, Gaudissart and Frochet cave.
  • Departure : Lente
  • Arrival : Saint-Jean-en-Royans (village centre)
  • Towns crossed : Bouvante and Saint-Jean-en-Royans
